Accredited Laundries Can Assist ASCs Comply With CMS Standard
Ambulatory
surgery centers (ASCs) are facilities where surgeries that do not
require hospital admission are performed. Think orthopedic or
opthamology procedures and odds are they're being performed at an ASC.
ASCs are highly regulated by federal and state entities, and those
serving Medicare (CMS) beneficiaries must be certified by the Medicare
program which means showing compliance with CMS standards on an
ongoing basis. The applicable regulation that applies to laundry
services is:
42 CFR Sec 416.41(a) Standard: Contract Services. "When
services are provided through a contract with an outside resource, the
ASC must assure that these services are provided in a safe and effective
manner."
Typically the healthcare customer will
need to provide a copy of their laundry contract to show compliance.
Additional documents that may be requested are wash formulas, titration
reports, the HLAC Standard, and the laundry's accreditation certificate.
Supplemental documents that can also
help the healthcare client include the HLAC Fact Sheet and Sales
Brochure, and remind your customer to refer CMS Surveyors to the
HLAC website for additional information about the inspection and
accreditation process. Accredited laundries are valuable supply chain partners and bring laundry expertise to their healthcare customers. |
